In Memory of Bob Ericksen: Hands and Spirit – The Vitality of Traditional Blackfeet Arts

We’re honored to share Hands and Spirit, a newly remastered version of a 1976 Sun Foundation production:
Hands and Spirit: The Vitality of Traditional Blackfeet Arts

Created by Bob and Joan Root Ericksen in collaboration with the Blackfeet Crafts Association, the original slideshow was a powerful tribute to the artistry, heritage, and enduring spirit of the Blackfeet Nation. With photography by Bob Ericksen and narration by Studs Terkel, the piece captures a vital moment in time — and a deep respect for Indigenous knowledge and creativity.

Now, in memory of Bob Ericksen, and with thanks to videographer Frank Blain, this work has been lovingly restored and made available online for the first time.

We invite you to watch and share this historic piece, which continues to reflect the Sun Foundation’s mission of honoring cultural traditions, education, and connection to the Earth.
