Art and Science in the Woods has inspired several generations of young students to become biologists, artists, teachers, musicians, filmmakers, and more—active members of society, creating the future with their talents. This kind of programing isn’t available elsewhere to these students, nearly a quarter of whom attend at no cost via a financial need scholarship.

Art and Science in the Woods wouldn’t be possible without the support of our community. Please consider sponsoring.

We are a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and contributions are tax-deductible. Our EIN is 23-7367667.

I love helping a camper do something they didn’t think they could do, and love seeing their face when they finally accomplish a goal.

Art and Science in the Woods would not be possible without volunteers. Each year, roughly 100 volunteers serve as teaching assistants, medical staff, administrative assistants, and in many other capacities. We also have a limited number of teen volunteer opportunities for those ages 15 and up.

Before summer camp begins

Before Art and Science in the Woods begins (May through the second week of June), a team of volunteers prepares Blue Heron Farm from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day.

Program Prep and Clean-up

  • Trail clearing

  • Painting

  • Class site clean-up

  • Classroom preparation

  • Organization and distribution of supplies

  • Landscaping and mowing

During summer camp

During our week-long Art and Science in the Woods summer camp, in mid-June, we need teaching assistants, evaluators, nurses, and volunteers to help with various duties.

Teaching Assistants

Assist the instructor with class needs

Office Help

Help with mailings, light computer work, organizing supplies, etc.

We need at least two volunteer nurses on site at all times

Why volunteer?

Community: Be part of a welcoming group of people all coming together for a common cause.

Enjoyment: There’s nothing quite like seeing the excitement of a child as he or she explores and learns new things.

For your time and help, volunteers receive:

TA Discount: Adult Teaching Assistants (TAs) and Nurses receive a $50 tuition discount for one student, to use as you wish.

Limited Edition T-shirt: TAs receive a free Art and Science in the Woods T-shirt, designed by an artist from our community.
